What is ARM?

7 March 2009 303 views No Comment

crochetARM stands for Artificially Rupturing Membranes.

To do this your doctor will use a long, fine crochet hook style instrument to break the membranes surrounding baby i.e. to break your waters.

This is most often done to induce labour or to speed labour up. In some hospitals it may be done if you are close to the final stages of labour but your waters have not yet broken.
