Week 9

Your baby now has the basics of all his or her basic organs including genitals and limbs. Baby is now about an inch long. Baby’s eyelids fuse shut and stay that way for the next 15 weeks. Your early pregnancy symptoms will be in full swing and there are still a few more weeks to go before they ease off.

Week 10

Baby is moving, kicking and swallowing although you won’t be able to feel it yet. Baby is also growing little finger nails. Baby is about an inch and a half and, as most of the major limbs and organs have already formed, they are at a lower risk of any physical disabilities or malformations. You will probably have received your appointment for your 12 week scan and may have already heard baby’s heartbeat.

Week 11

Your baby is fully formed! Only one more week until that precious 12 week point where the risk of miscarriage drastically reduces and you get to see baby for the first time in your 12 week scan. If this is not your first baby you may have begun to look pregnant. Your early pregnancy symptoms may also have begun to subside. As many people wait until the 12 week point to tell their friends and colleagues about the pregnancy and with the upcoming scan then this week will possibly be a week of reduced sleep due to nerves and excitement.

Week 12

Hurray! The point where you get to meet your baby for the first time, get to go public and get to worry less! Baby is now around 2.5 inches long and your morning sickness, exhaustion and mood swings will usually begin to ease. Welcome in the period of pregnancy when you have most energy, lovely hair and glowing skin (with any luck!). You have reached the end of your first trimester. Your baby’s main job now will be to start putting on weight.
