What is the best grown up gadget for parents?
Baby NuNu’s Dulcinea’s Gold Star goes to ……………. The iPhone
My husband has a thing about gadgets and usually gets me a gadget whether I want it or not. When he presented me with an iPhone for Christmas with a proud grin I thought great I needed a new phone but that was about it. Now I am addicted and I have found it a great way to entertain the kids.
Photos - First of all the picture quality on the camera is brilliant. I mean it! Better than my digital camera. I don’t know how many pictures I can keep but I am up to 120 at the moment and still going. Also you can use the photos as wallpaper or can email them straight from your phone (and of course download them to your computer). Just perfect for daysd out at the park, candid camera shots of the kids or those priceless comody moments (I have a photo of the day my 3 year old covered my 1 year old’s face and hairin Sudocrem nappy/ diaper rash ointment while I was in the kitchen)
Music and video - being an iPhone one of the main selling points is that there is also an iPod. You can go straight to the iTunes store on the internet (on your phone of course) and download tunes immediately. You can shuffle through your album covers with your finger on the touch screen and choose whatever album or song you want to listen to. You can use earphones or the built in speakers which are surprisingly loud. You can even get an in car speaker attachment. We have just downloaded the complete works of Beatrix Potter and the Lion King soundtrack. The phone also comes ready loaded with a direct link to You Tube. Something which my 3 year old because it means he can watch whatever cartoons he wants whenever he wants to.
Internet - my absolute favourite thing (apart from the camera) is that there is a little envelope on the home screen and when you tap it abracadabra there is your email. It is great to be able to pull inemails or check out ebaywhen the kids are running around the soft play centre.
At one point there were no games and that was it’s major downfall but now there are thousands of new applications you can download and my kids have about 10 age appropriate games each. It keeps them quiet in the car! One of the best games at the moment is one where you turn your own photos into a jigsaw puzzle.
The kids? They love it. The baby chews it (he did fill it with dribble the other day thoug so for 12 hours every call sounded underwater) and the 3 year old loves that everything is touch screen and likes to flick through the photos of him and baby while he listens to nursery rhymes on the ipod
The husband? Just engages me in arguments - which is best my iPhone or his Blackberry
